Not everyone can afford to get their furniture repaired professionally every time it receives some stain or damage to it.  There is no need to worry because the majority of problems do not need an expert to solve and shouldn’t cost you a lot of money. 2 very common damage problems and addressed here, with techniques of how to sort them out.The these techniques should work fine for most woods, you should always test them on a part that is not visible to make sure they do not alter the colour of the wood

Water Rings

All it takes is someone to carelessly place a cup or glass down right on to dining furniture without using a coaster and you’re left with unsightly marks. Getting them to leave though is not as hard as you might think. Ironing out the stains is the best method. Just place a clean piece of cloth over the stain and iron over it until the stain vanishes. If your stain still refuses to go, drip some citric acid from an orange or lemon onto it and give it a night to soak in. The acid will work into the stain and when you rise in the morning you should find the stain has gone. If there is by any chance any remaining hint of a mark, iron over it again and this should do the trick.

Scratches

Scratches happen all the time to furniture just through their general use. This doesn’t mean however that you have to live with them when they occur. A variety of techniques can be used to correct the majority of scratches.scratches that are relatively light can more often than not be removed by rubbing them down with the open half of a cut walnut. If this still leaves the scratch visible, trying rubbing in some furniture polish and rework with the walnut. For scratches that go a little deeper, mix a very small amount of lacquer thinner with some simple denatured alcohol. By using a very fine paintbrush you can blend in the surrounding lacquer and carefully cover the damaged area.

If your painted nice white furniture gets any damage such as a piece of white bedroom furniture then do not use the techniques above. You are much better off painting over the affected part and rubbing it back down so it looks the same as the rest of the wood
